Roy Sewell has been nominated for Trucker Buddy of the Month by his Trucker Buddy teacher, Michele Chilenski and her 3rd grade class at Olde Sawmill Elementary. The two have been paired for 2 years.
“Roy has gone out of his way for my class,” stated Ms. Chilenski.
Not only did he come to the class Veteran’s Day Program but he
has also come on a class field trip and sent treats for Halloween.
This year he gave the class a miniature replica of his truck. The
students enjoyed this gift because on numerous occasions he has
brought his truck for the students to climb inside and shown them
how the lift in the back works. Now they get to see it and be
reminded of the times they were sitting in the same seat.
“He has done an exceptional job of teaching my students good
work ethic and responsibility,” says Chilenski. He will write back
to every student that sends him a question, including examples
of emails from satisfied customers. “He also teaches the
students about how hard work pays off.” He has also taught
the students about the trucking industry, some of the possible
dangers of driving a truck and really given them a good idea of
what it is like when he is out on the road.
He sends pictures to the class of his travels and has taught the
class map skills by letting them know where all he goes. The
students also learn about geography from following his travels.
When he visited the class he told the students his stories and
experiences from being out on the road.
“He encourages good behavior, academics and makes the children
feel special and important,” raves Chilenski about how his hands
on approach with their class.
